Shanners to leave OA’s at end of season

OA’s Head Coach James Shanahan has announced that he will be departing at the end of the season, having been offered a contract with Blackheath.

The club fully respects Shanners’ decision. He is a talented, ambitious and highly respected coach, and having steered OA‘s back to being a competitive force again in National One, his view is that his second stint with the club has now run its course.

Shanners described his decision as a tough one, but the opportunity to lead such an historic club was too good to turn down. A proud man of integrity, Shanners concluded,

“I am totally committed to finishing the season in style with OA‘s, and pushing for top 8, which on a small budget compared to most in National One will be a huge achievement for the team. I love OA’s and what the club has allowed me to achieve, and how it has welcomed me and my family. I only have great memories. My sincere thanks to all the supporters, members, sponsors, coaches and players for making this journey possible.”

OA Chairman Rusty Osman and Director of Rugby Bruce Millar will be overseeing the process for recruiting Shanners’ replacement.
