Old Albanian 8pts Coventry 73pts
As the scoreline suggests this was a match of extremes, not least in the fact that, at least for the hosts, things could have been much worse. Bearing in mind that Albanians contrived to enjoy far more possession in the first half than did their guests, this seems to indicate that the hosts were, not to put too fine a point upon it, ineffective with the ball in hand.
Coventry had no such failing and it would take a pedant to find any weakness at all in the visitors’ game plan. There was nothing complicated here. Every gap in Albanian defence was explored with alacrity and throughout the afternoon there was a pugnacious element about the midlanders’ efforts entirely missing in the attitude of the Woollams outfit. On top of that there is no denying real pace and in Max Trimble Coventry have a winger who surely will not stay down at level three for long. His delightful hattrick was perhaps the high spot of this one-sided affair.
Heath Stevens scored a brace, Will Maisey weighed in with a 21 point personal haul and longtime Cov favourite Cliffie Hodgson converted his own try at the death. It will be a thoughtful OA side who travel to Hull a fortnight from now.
