The 948 Sports Foundation was established by the OA Sports Club who
gifted £500,000 to promote participation in sport by young people in the
St Albans district.
The Foundation was launched in February 2003 and by the end of June
2005, the Trustees had made 55 grants totalling close to £60,000. These
included awards to individuals across a range of sports, junior soccer
clubs such as Harvesters and St Albans City Youth, team sports clubs
based at Woollams, ten schools and Harpenden’s Skateboard Park Appeal.
In addition, £5,000 has been awarded to the Saracen’s Foundation for the
involvement of local primary schools in the “Ready for Rugby”
initiative.
Application guidelines: Applications are welcomed from individuals, organisations
and educational establishments who are involved in the organisation and provision
of facilities which enable and encourage participation by young persons in physical
recreation and sport. Awards will be given to residents in St Albans and the
surrounding district.
Support will be considered for projects which demonstrate they are concerned with:
Provision of equipment or facilities Improvement in the participation in sport through
specialist training or other means to achieve excellence. A sporting activity within a
group or team environment
