On Sunday 9th October, the U9s A-team arrived at Amersham on a beautiful sunny morning, ready for our second festival of the season and looking to carry on the good form from last week.
First game was against Fullers, some excellent attacking skills but even better defensive work getting several 7 tackle turn overs and managing to capitalise on these to win the game 7-1. On to the second game against Chesham, once again some very good attacking work with all the boys breaking through tackles. But again it was the defence that made the difference. Another win 6-1.
Third game against Beaconsfield was much tougher than the previous two. The boys were getting tired and hungry but not for scoring tries! The boys made it hard work for themselves by not moving the ball around as much as they could, but our defence was still strong enough to keep the opposition at bay and the game finished 4-1 in our favour.
Game 4 and our biggest challenge of the day, playing the host side Amersham, these guys meant business. Both sides had excellent defence but in attack it was the hosts that could recycle the ball a bit quicker and a bit cleaner. This gave them a mild advantage finishing 4-3 in their favour.
On to the last game against Saracens, we knew this would be a little easier than the last and indeed it was. The boys went into the game with heads held high despite the outcome of the last game. Attacking play was much better with the boys letting the ball do more of the work to create some excellent moves and tries. Defensively very strong, every time Sarries came close to our try line the pressure they applied made them fumble and give us possession, which we used well.
So in the last game of the day we finished 5-0 winners. All in all a great display of determination and team work! Well done team.
