In a thrilling quarter-final played on 19th March, OA Colts beat a high quality Lutterworth team containing two players representing England u18 Counties.
Lutterworth started much the brighter team and rocked OAs back with the hard running of their midfield, but apart from one try midway through the first half, Lutterworth were unable to break down the OA defence despite several opportunities. As the half drew to a close, OAs kept the ball in play and went through a number of phases for Jan Ninalga to score a crucial try right on half time. This was converted in miraculous fashion by Will Stewart into the teeth of a very strong wind.
The second half continued as the first half ended with OAs gradually getting on top with the their fitness beginning to tell. A long period of pressure resulted in a trademark line out drive and try by Kieren Goldie to make the score 12-5. The remaining play went back and forth and both sides had chances, but that is how the score stayed until the end.
This had been a high quality match between two very good teams, and OAs were relieved, but also delighted, to come out on the winning side.
The draw for the semi-final sees OAs now making the long trip to York on Sunday 2nd April.
