Saints Unite with Peacocks to Secure Win over Moselely

Shelford Ladies 19

Moseley Ladies 5

Back to the days of ‘Shove it up your jumper’ rugby were definitely part and parcel of a very wet, and boggy pitch at Shelford RFC!

A few injuries and unavailable players had reduced Shelford’s squad to 15 players during the build up to the match. The Saints have a solid relationship with the Cambridgeshire side and have supported each other loaning players over the years. The Saints clash with leaders Tonbridge had been cancelled and rearranged later on in the season which meant another week without a match. The Saints stepped up and five players keen to play offered their services; Mica Gooding, Holly Watson, Cat Gilbert, Louisa Gallimore and Lauren Eardely.

Half time neared and still no score form either team but that was soon to change! Mica welcomed some comments from the referee with her immense tackling throughout the game and she also managed to run in two tries winning her forward of the match!

This really does emphasise the importance of the loan system in place and making use of it. We all train to play and forming relationships with other teams builds confidence in individuals and gives them match experience.
