It was perfect Rugby weather and there was tension in the air as the top of the table clash between OA’s Grizzlies v Berkhampstead had built up to be the match of the season. The game started with some big hits and strong defence by both sides. Grizzlies lost their captain Kim Watson only a few minutes in and hung over Darren Coley was summoned to step into the half back roll in true Grizzlies spirit. Berkhampsted scored first but couldn’t convert. Again it was the wake up call the Grizzlies needed and they responded with a try of their own scored by Andy O’Brien. Mick Foley missed the conversion and the score was tied at 5-5. The Grizzlies’ forwards continued their strong hold on the game as they muscled the Berko’s forward around the park. The Grizzlies took the slimmest of leads going in at half time with the scores 8 – 5, after Foley kicked a penalty. The second half continue with the Grizzlies fisical presence getting to Berko as they lost their hooker after lashing out with a girly slap. The Grizzlies put 2 tries on the board in quick succession with Carl Lavin and new boy Robin Bye crossing the white wash. Foley had regained his kicking boots and converted both tries. MoM went to Andy O’Brien as his brutal tackling had Berko dropping like flies. A fantastic performance by the Grizzlies ended this top of the table clash 22 – 5 and meant the Grizzlies secured their place at the top of HMMT 6.
The Grizzlies get back to winning ways!
