Grizzlies vs Harpenden 3Xvs
The Grizzlies travelled the short distance up the road to try and get revenge on bitter rivals Harpenden. The local derby between Top of the table OA’s Grizzlies and bottom of the table Harpenden saw Harpenden complete an unbelievable double over the Grizzles. Fortunately the result didn’t affect the standing in the league, but bragging rights go with Harpenden this season.
In a game that promised to be a cracker it was marred by the constant intervention of the referee who decided to give OA’s 2 yellows for minor offences. Playing 20 minutes with 14 men didn’t help our cause as once again a very strong Harpenden side took advantage. The Grizzlies were always playing catch up rugby but managed to score 3 tries of their own with James Bourke, Tanyaradzwa Fernando and Steve Sibley crossing the line. Michael Foley converted all 3 and added a penalty to his personal tally. Steve Sibley earned MoM for his bullish runs and never say die spirit. DoD went to Darren Ead for getting us walked back 30 yards by the ref until the oppo was 5m from our try line. It was one of those days! A disappointing day for all concerned as the game ended up 36-24.
This was our last league game of 2016. There will hopefully be a pre Christmas friendly on the 10th Dec which is also the OA’s Christmas party and we hope to see as many of the club members there. Other than that the Grizzlies will be looking forward to 2017.
